Lake Charles, Louisiana                        August 21, 2009

Even though the afternoon weather again challenged the players in the 20th edition of the Louisiana Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship, scores were much better on Friday than they had been for the first round. First round leader Doug Farr of Monroe again had the day’s best round, a six-under par 66, to lead the field after 36 holes by five shots. He stands at nine-under 135 (69/66) after two rounds over the Lake Charles Country Club track. Monroe’s Bob Cooper, who won this Championship in 2007, stands alone in second place after his second consecutive round of two-under par 70. He stands at four-under 140. Defending Champion John Davis of Lafayette had the day’s next-best round, a five-under par 67, which places him by himself in third at three-under 141 (74/67). Rounding out the Top Five through 36 holes are: fourth; Jay Branham of Alexandria 70-72/142; and tied for fifth; Wayne Sweeney of Lake Charles, 71-72/143, Hal Wright of Shreveport, 72-71/143, and John Henchy of Baton Rouge, 70-73/143.

Farr, who won the LGA Amateur Championship in 1985, started his round on #10, made his only bogey of the day on the short par five 11th hole, and was one-over par for the day standing on the 16th tee with 12 holes left in his second round. He then proceeded to birdie seven of his remaining 12 holes, making birdies on #16, #17, #1, #5, #6, #7, and #8.

Cooper had a bogey-free round, making birdies on #8 and #18 for his 70, while Davis, playing in the same group with Cooper, was also without a bogey, his card showing birdies on #7, #8, #10, #13, and #15.

Other scores of par or better on Friday were turned in by Johnny Futch of Monroe (70), Bill Land of Lafayette (70), Dennis Smith of Lafayette (70), Wright (71), Rick Bratcher of LaPlace (71), Eddie Lyons of Shreveport (71), Rick Brinker of Bossier City (71), Branham (72), Sweeney (72), Frank Brame of Alexandria (72), Keith Kline of Mandeville (72), Bryant Ackley of Lake Charles (72), Wiley Conn of Mandeville (72), and Ben Thibeaux of Lafayette (72).
