July 9, 2009 Woodworth, LA
Woodworth’s Tyler Ledet extended his lead to six shots after Thursday’s second round of the 2009 Louisiana Golf Association Junior Amateur Championship. Ledet, who lives just off the sixth tee at this year’s tournament venue, Alexandria Golf & Country Club, again used his local knowledge to shoot an even par 72 on Thursday. He stands at 5-under 139 after two trips around his home course. His 67 on Wednesday is the low round of the tournament.
New Orleans’ Peyton Vitter had the day’s best round, a two-under par 70, to stand alone in second place at one-over 145. Timothy Wilson of Shreveport is in third place at 148 after shooting 76 on Thursday, with Hayden Bigby another shot back in fourth (71/78-149). Tied for fifth at six-over 150 are Paul Broussard of Lake Charles, Jordan Karam, also of Lake Charles, and Myles Lewis of Metairie.
Rounding out the Top Ten heading into Friday’s final round are: Drew Kirby of Baton Rouge, alone in eighth place at 151, with a contingent of six players tied for ninth at 152 (Michael Fontenot of Lake Charles, Hunter Gauntlett of Shreveport, Lewis Peters II of Baton Rouge, Jason Noto of Luling, Anthony Lacombe of Baton Rouge, and Taylor Netherton of Shreveport).
Friday’s play will again begin at 7:30 AM off both #1 and #10, with the leaders scheduled to go off #1 at 8:42 AM.
This year’s Championship is being played at Alexandria Golf & Country Club. Conditions were again hot and humid on Thursday with some much welcome cloud cover for this field of the top Junior players in the state. The Alexandria G & CC course, noted for its small greens and thick rough, is playing to a par of 72 at approximately 6,550 yards for the Championship.
In addition to the Overall Junior Amateur Championship, the LGA also conducts Age-Group Championships, which completed play on Thursday.
Age Group Champions are as follows:
