RICK BRATCHER, ROBBIE McWILLIAMS, AND GEORGE CESTIA LEAD PARTIALLY COMPLETED SECOND ROUND IN LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIAION MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
When play was suspended for darkness at 8 PM on Saturday night, exactly half the field was still on the course, necessitating their return at 8:30 AM on Sunday to complete the second round.
Second round play did not begin on Saturday until 12:30 PM, a result of the vast majority of competitors having to return to complete their first round Saturday morning. Of those completing 36 holes prior to the suspension of play Saturday night, first round co-leader Rick Bratcher of LaPlace, 2005 and 2007 Mid-Am runner-up Robbie McWilliams of Bossier City, and Lake Charles’s George Cestia are on top of the leaderboard with three-under par totals of 141. 2000 and 2003 Mid-Am Champion John Davis of Lafayette is in at two-under 142, with Rod Baronet of LeCompte the only other competitor finishing 36 holes under par. He stands at one-under 143. Those under par through 18 but still on the course at dark include first round co-leader Kyle Chauvin of Carencro (69), Robby Going of Lake Charles (70), and Lafayette’s Robert Shelton (70).
Sunday’s restart will begin at 8:30 AM with the completion of second round play expected somewhere between 10:30 and 11:30 AM. The field will then be cut to the low 60 scorers and ties and re-paired with the third round to begin approximately 30-45 minutes after the completion of the second round. Third round play will commence off of both #1 and #10 tees with the leaders expected to go off #1 between 12:45 and 1:45 PM.
The Joe Finger-designed Ellendale CC track continues to draw accolades from this field of the best players 25 years of age and older in Louisiana. Playing to a par of 72 at just under 7,000 yards for this Championship, the course is known as an extremely challenging, but fair test. Saturday’s play was conducted in a cool breeze early in the day that turned into extremely hot and humid conditions by late morning and remained that way for the rest of the day.
All scores to follow.
