DENNIS SMITH AND BRAD MOSING SHOOT 64 ON SUNDAY TO CLAIM 2008 LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION SENIOR FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Lake Charles, Louisiana – Dennis Smith and Brad Mosing of Lafayette fired an eight-under par 64 on Sunday to come from one shot back and capture the 21st edition of the Louisiana Golf Association Senior Four-Ball Championship, which concluded today at Lake Charles Country Club.

Tied for fourth after Saturday’s play, Mosing kick-started his team’s round on Sunday with birdie chip-ins on both #2 and #3. Another birdie by Mosing on the par five seventh took them out in three-under 33. Smith birdied #10 before Mosing caught fire again, birdying 11, 12, 14, and 17 coming in to shoot five-under 31 on the back to complete their 64 on Sunday and finish their 36 holes at 13-under par 131.

Finishing alone in second at 132 after firing their second consecutive 66 were 2003 Champions Sid Harp of Donaldsonville and Sam Lavigne of Gonzales, Lavigne leaving an eagle chip on the 18th hole just short. Tying for third at 133 were the teams of Scott Haynie and Frank Schroeder of Baton Rouge and defending champions Wiley Conn of Mandeville and Darell Benoit of Belle Chasse. Rounding out the top five at 135 were the Lafayette teams of Ben Thibeaux/Robert Shelton and John Davis/Bill Land.

In addition to the Overall Championship, players also competed in Age Group Championships.   In the 60-64 Age Group, Lew Ward and Russ Gaudin of Baton Rouge took home the title, shooting seven-under par 137, while Reed Fontenot of Lake Charles and Phil Kramer of Welsh captured the 65-69 Age Group Championship with a two day total of one-under143.

This year’s Championship was held at Lake Charles Country Club only a week removed from Hurricane Ike’s landfall. The course continued to draw rave reviews from this field of the best Senior players in the state. It played to a par of 72 at just over 6,600 yards on Sunday.
