RESTA CHOATE OF SHREVEPORT WINS 2007 LGA NET AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP IN PLAYOFF; CALHOUN'S CALVERT CROSSING GOLF CLUB CAPTURES NET CLUB TEAM TITLE

May 20, 2007 -- Shreveport's Resta Choate shot a net score of six-under par 66 on Sunday and then outlasted Todd Perry of Calhoun in a three-hole cumulative score playoff to win the 2007 LGA Net Amateur Championship.  Choate, who carries a 25.9 USGA Handicap Index (Course Handicap of 28) finished with a two-day total of eight-under par 136.  Perry, playing in the final group of the day with first round co-leaders Darrell Gerald and Kent Willis, shot a second consecutive 68 to finish regulation in a tie with Choate at 142.  Perry plays to a Handicap Index of 23.1 (Course Handicap of 25).

In the playoff, each player received one-third of their Course Handicap, Choate receiving five shots and Perry four. Choate parred the first two holes (#16 & #17), finishing with a bogey on the difficult #18, to wrap up the title and his first LGA Championship.

Rounding out the top-ten for the championship were: Defending Champion Randy Indovina, Baton Rouge (3rd, 68--137); Darryl Beasley, Calhoun (4th, 67--138); William Duncan, Baton Rouge (5th, 70--141); first round co-leader Darrell Gerald, Baton Rouge (6th, 75--142); Kevin Reed, Baton Rouge (7th, 72--143); Ricky Norwood, Lake Charles (T-8, 72--144); first round co-leader Kent Willis, Denham Springs (T-8, 77--144); and Chris Bertaut, Morgan City (T-10, 72--146), Marty Chapman, Maurice (T-10, 73--146, and Brad Burkett, Greenwell Springs (T-10, 75--146).

This was the eithth annual Net Amateur Championship conducted by the Louisiana Golf Association.  The LGA is attempting to provide a true championship event for the higher handicap player, with procedures in place to assure that consistency and integrity are benchmarks for the event.  The LGA utilized the USGA Tournament Score Probability Table to adjust any handicap index where a player’s score exceeded normal probability.

In the concurrent LGA Net Club Team Championship, the team from Calvert Crossing Golf Club in Calhoun took home the title with a two-day total of 10-under par 422.  Members of the Calvert Crossing squad included: Todd Perry, Darryl Beasley, and Tommy Parker.  Finishing in second place at one-over par 433 for two rounds was former champion Pine Shadows Golf Club in Lake Charles.  Pine Shadows team members were: Julius Courville, Carl Lemaire, Ricky Norwood, and Al Lyles.  This is the fifth year that the LGA has conducted the Net Club Team Championship in conjunction with the Net Amateur.  Four players represent a club and the best three of four net scores are totaled to create the Club Team score for the day.

This year's championship was played at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary, just north of Baton Rouge.  The golf course, which drew rave reviews from the field, played to a par of 72 and approximately 6,650 yards for the championship.  Beaver Creek will also host this year's LGA Junior Amateur Championship in late June.

In addition to the Overall Net Championship, the field was divided into four flights with the top-three finishers in each flight receiving awards.  Flight winners are as follows:
