MONROE’S BOB COOPER EXTENDS LEADS AFTER SECOND ROUND AT 2007 LGA SENIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Springfield, Louisiana                August 17, 2007

Monroe’s Bob Cooper, in his first year of eligibility, extended his lead to four shots heading into final round play at the 2007 Louisiana Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship. Cooper, who led by one shot after Thursday, fired his second straight sub-par round, shooting a one-under par 71 to finish 36 holes at three-under par 141. Tied for second place with 18 holes yet to play are Bill Land of Lafayette and Rick Bratcher of LaPlace. They both stand at one-over par 145. Land shot 74 on Friday, while Bratcher had one of the day’s best scores with a two-under par 70.

Jim Adams of Baton Rouge stands alone in 4th at two-over 146, with Doug Farr of Monroe one shot back in 5th by himself at 147. Farr also shot 70 on Friday. 2005 Champion Darell Benoit of Belle Chasse and Hal Wright of Shreveport are tied for 6th at 148, with Vernon St. Amant of LaPlace another shot back and in 8th place. Rounding out the Top Ten are two-time Champion Frank Brame of Alexandria, Robert Shelton of Lafayette, and Sid Harp of Donaldsonville, all at six-over par 150. Defending Champion John Davis of Lafayette, after a 75 on Friday stands tied for 12th at 151.

Cooper got off to a strong start with birdies on #2, #4, and #6, and a lone bogey on the par three 4th to turn in two-under par 34. Two bogeys and a birdie on #14 brought him home in 37 or his lead would have been even greater heading in Saturday’s final 18 holes.
