DARELL BENOIT/WILEY CONN WIN LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION SENIOR 4-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Patterson, Louisiana                      September 16, 2007

Darell Benoit of Belle Chasse and Wiley Conn of Mandeville fired a nine-under par 63 on Sunday to take home the title in the 2007 Louisiana Golf Association Senior 4-Ball Championship.  Benoit and Conn entered Sunday's play one shot behind the leaders after their six-under 66 in Saturday's first round.  They turned the front side in 5-under par on Sunday, then Benoit made eagle three on the par five 13th hole to give them a three shot cushion over eventual runners-up John Davis and Bill Land of Lafayette, whom they were playing with on Sunday, with five holes to play.  Davis had also made eagle three on #13 to get his team to ten-under.   Davis and Land birdied the par four 14th to get within two, then whittled the lead another stroke as Land made an eagle on the par five 16th, with Benoit making birdie to keep his team in front by one.  Birdies for both teams on #17 set the stage for a dramatic finishing hole, with Davis and Land still just one shot back.  After Davis and Land made par, Benoit was faced with a tricky four footer to save par, which he made to ensure their one stroke victory.  They finished with a 36 hole total of 15-under par 129.  Land and Davis shot 66/64 to finish at 14-under 130.

Finishing in a tie for third, two more shots back were Defending Champions Glenn Roscoe of West Monroe and Johnny Futch of Monroe, stringing together a pair of 66s to finish at 12-under 132.  First-round co-leaders Sid Harp of Donaldsonville and Sam Lavigne of Gonzales shot 65/67 to also finish at 132.  Tieing for fifth place were the teams of Robert Shelton and Jimmy Thomas of Lafayette with rounds of 66/68 - 134, and Todd Lusk and Randy McGee of Baton Rouge with 70/64 - 134.  Lusk and McGee also took home the title in the 60-64 Age Group Championship.  Dennis Hurley of Marrero and Mac Blanchard of Lake Charles finished alone in seventh with a 36-hole total of 135, while first-round co-leaders Lew Ward and Scott Rabenhorst of Baton Rouge shot 71 on Sunday to take home the eighth spot at 136.

This year’s Championship was conducted at the Audubon Golf Trail’s Atchafalaya Golf Club at Idlewild facility just north of Morgan City in Patterson. The Robert von Hagge design continued to draw accolades from this field of the top Senior players in the state. The course played to a par of 72 at just over 6,500 yards for this Championship. The Atchafalaya GC will also host the first LGA event of 2008 as well, the Club Team Championship, enabling the club to hold the distinction of hosting the final LGA event of 2007 and the first LGA event of 2008
As mentioned, the LGA also conducted Age Group Championships in this event.  Champions of the three additional Age Group Championships are as follows:
