PRESS RELEASE EDDIE LYONS LEADS BY ONE HEADING INTO FINAL ROUND OF THE 2006 LGA SENIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP August 18, 2006 -- Shreveport's Eddie Lyons posted his second straight round under par and leads the field at the 17th edition of the Louisiana Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship. Lyons stands at three-under par for the tournament and leads Lafayette's John Davis and Monroe's Doug Farr by one shot. Lyons, the 2003 LGA Senior Amateur Champion, made one birdie (#5) against one bogey (#8) on his first nine holes for an even-par 36. On his inward nine, Lyons made bogey at the tenth and birdies on the two par-5s (#11 and 13) for a one-under par 35 and a total score of 71. Lyons stands at three-under par 141 for the tournament. Davis, who along with Lyons and Donaldsonville's Sid Harp shared the lead after the first round, turned in a round of even-par 72 on Friday. Davis got his round off to a good start with birdies at #7 and 8 to make the turn in two-under par 34. However, two bogeys on his second nine (#13 and 18) put him back to even for the day. Davis stands at two-under par 142 heading into the final round. Farr is also at two-under par for the tournament thanks to a round of two-under par 70 in the second round. Farr made two birdies (#2 and 3) against two bogeys (#7 and 9) to shoot an opening nine even-par 36. Coming in, Farr recorded three birdies (#10, 13, and 16) against just one bogey (#15) for a back nine score of 34. Farr will play with Lyons and Davis in the final group on Saturday morning. Rounding out the top-ten heading into the final round are: Sid Harp, Donaldsonville (4th, 73-143); Robert Shelton, Lafayette (T-5, 69--145); Ben Hargis, Alexandria (T-5, 72--145); Dennis Smith, Lafayette (T-5, 72--145); Darell Benoit, Belle Chasse (T-8, 71--146); David Hebert, Lafayette (T-8, 72--146); and Mark Tolson, Lafayette (10th, 74--148). The field was cut to the low 60 and ties after Friday’s play. The cut fell at 18-over par 162 with 62 players returning to play on Saturday. Play will get underway on Saturday morning at 7:15 a.m. off the first tee with the leaders going off at 10:15 a.m. This year's event is being held in Lafayette at Oakbourne Country Club. The course was designed by Dick Wilson in the early 1950's and is playing to a par of 72 at 6,700 yards for the championship. This field is the largest in the history of this event and the course is in immaculate shape for the best senior players in the state. Age-Group Championships were decided on Friday after 36 holes. In the 70 & Over Age-Group, Eugene Hartenstine of Denham Springs captured the 70 & Over Age-Group after rounds of 82-79. Corky Yates of Pineville claimed another 65-69 title with a 75 and 76. And Baton Rouge's Todd Lusk also took home another title in the 60-64 Age-Group with rounds of 73 and 76. The 60-64 and 65-69 Age-Groups played from the same tees as the Overall Championship and are competing concurrently in the Overall Championship. The 70 & Over competitors played from a forward set of tees and, consequently, only competed for their Age-Group Championship. Age-Group leaders after 18 holes are as follows:
