COPPER MILL GOLF CLUB USES LOCAL KNOWLEDGE TO TAKE OPENING ROUND LEAD AT THE LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

April 22, 2006          Zachary, Louisiana

Zachary's Copper Mill Golf Club grabbed the opening round lead after shooting a 14-under par 130 at the 2006 Louisiana Golf Association Club Team Championship.  Playing on their home course, the team posted rounds of 64 and 66 to take a one-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round.  The team of Wes and Mac Watts combined for nine birdies and one bogey to pace their team while Tom Agazzi and Jason Albritton used an opening nine six-under par 30 to help them finish two behind their teammates.  Tommy Langlois and Scottie Southall also shot under par on the day (71), but in a format where the two best of three four-ball scores count, there score was not used.

Following closely behind Copper Mill are Ellendale Country Club (Houma) and Hebert Municipal Golf Course (Lafayette), who are one and three shots back respectively.  Ellendale used rounds of 64 (Kevin Morvant and Nick Terracina) and 67 (B.J. Antill and Brett Casey) to shoot 13-under par on the day.  Greg Crain and Brandon Henry carded a 68 on the day, but it was not counted towards the team score.  The team from Hebert Municipal put up a 65 (Paul Hamilton and Tedd Weber) and a pair of 68s (James Hamilton and David Duhon, Thad Weber and Todd Weber) on Saturday and will play behind Copper Mill and Ellendale on Sunday afternoon.

The pair of 64s shot by Copper Mill's Wes and Mac Watts and Ellendale's Kevin Morvant and Nick Terracina were the low rounds of the day.

Saturday's format consisted of four-ball stroke play.  The team's total score for the first round is determined by the best two of the three four-ball scores.  The final round will consist of individual stroke play with the total score consisting of four of the team's best six individual scores.  Each six-man team in the Club Team Championship consists of six players.  LGA Member Clubs have the option of putting together a team of one professional and five amateurs or six amateurs. 

The 2006 LGA Club Team Championship is being conducted at the Crace/Maxwell-designed Copper Mill Golf Club in Zachary, Louisiana.  Featuring a layout of six par-5s, six par-4s, and six par-3s, the par-72 course measures just over 6800 yards.
