PRESS RELEASE For Release: Upon Receipt Contact: Michael Walder AL WYCHE OF SHREVEPORT CLAIMS THE 2005 LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION NET AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER HURRICANE KATRINA FORCED THE CANCELLATION OF THE FINAL ROUND Gonzales, Louisiana August 27, 2005 Al Wyche of Shreveport fired a net score of five-under par 67 on Saturday to claim the 2005 Louisiana Golf Association Net Amateur Championship. The championship, which was originally scheduled as a 36-hole event, had to be shortened to 18 holes due to the ominous threat of Hurricane Katrina. Wyche, who carries a USGA Handicap Index of 7.5 (course handicap of 8), shot a gross score of 75 en route to his first LGA Championship. Randy Indovina of Baton Rouge posted a net score of three-under par 69 to finish as the runner-up in this event for the second straight year. Indovina, who has a USGA Handicap Index of 10.8 (course handicap of 12) and shot a gross score of 81, including two birdies (No. 1 and 8). Tom Pollock of Baton Rouge, Paul Tyrney of Folsom, and Madison Mulkey of Prairieville all shot net scores of two-under par 70 to finish in a tie for third. Pollock, a two-time winner of this event (2000 and 2001), carries a USGA Handicap Index of 19.0 (course handicap of 20) and shot a gross score of 90, while Tyrney has a USGA Handicap Index of 22.0 (course handicap of 24) and shot a gross score of 94. Mulkey carries a 4.5 USGA Handicap Index (course handicap of 5) and shot a gross score of 75. This was the sixth annual Net Amateur Championship conducted by the Louisiana Golf Association. The LGA is attempting to provide a true championship event for the higher handicap player, with procedures in place to assure that consistency and integrity are benchmarks for the event. The LGA is utilizing the USGA Tournament Score Probability Table to adjust any handicap indexes where a player’s score exceeds normal probability. In addition to the Overall Net Championship, the field was divided into four flights with the top-three finishers in each flight also receiving awards. In the third annual Net Club Team Championship, conducted concurrently with the Net Amateur, the team from Calvert Crossing in Calhoun captured the title with a 36-hole net score of even-par 216. Teammates Jerry LeBus, Troy Littlefield, Tommy Parker, and Todd Perry bested eight other clubs to take home the crystal trophy signifying the LGA’s Net Club Team Championship for 2005. Finishing in second place was Pelican Point Golf Club’s Lakes Course team, who posted a five-over par 221. This year’s Championship was conducted at Pelican Point Golf Club’s Links Course in Gonzales, just southeast of Baton Rouge. The course played to a par of 72 over approximately 6,500 yards. Saturday’s play was conducted under hot and humid conditions with plenty of sunshine. Flight winners are as follows:
