PRESS RELEASE For Release: Upon Receipt Contact: Michael Walder BOSSIER CITY’S ROBBY McWILLIAMS SITS ATOP THE LEADERBOARD ENTERING THE FINAL ROUND OF THE 2005 LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP Monroe, Louisiana August 13, 2005 Robby McWilliams of Bossier City stands at seven-under par 137 after a second round 70 in the 14th annual Louisiana Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship. Two shots back of Williams entering Sunday’s final round is Covington’s Tommy Brennan, who posted a three-under par 69 on Saturday. The only other person under par after 36 holes is David Hebert of Lafayette, who finds himself at two-under par for the championship. As he did in Friday’s opening round, McWilliams started his day off with an early bogey at the par-4 second hole, before birdieing three of his next four holes (No. 3, 5, and 6). Back-to-back bogeys at No. 8 and 9 left him at even par for the day after his opening nine. McWilliams made another bogey at the par-4 eleventh, but rebounded with an eagle at the par-5 fourteenth and a birdie at the par-5 sixteenth. With pars on his final two holes, McWilliams finished the day with a 70 and stands at seven-under for the championship. Brennan, a three-time champion of this event (1995, 1996, and 1997), got his day off to a fast start with birdies at No. 2 and 3. Following a bogey at No. 5, he made another birdie at the par-3 ninth two go out in 34. Two quick birdies on the back at No. 11 and 12 followed by a birdie at the sixteenth took Brennan to five-under for the day and seven-under for the championship. However, a double bogey at the par-3 seventeenth dropped him back to five-under for the championship, where he finds himself entering tomorrow’s round. Lafayette’s David Hebert completed another steady round of golf on Saturday with a two-under par 70. Two birdies (No. 7 and 8) against one bogey put Hebert at one-under after the front nine. After two more birdies (No. 11 and 15) and another bogey on the back, Hebert stands at two-under par 142 for the championship. Rounding out the top-ten going into Sunday’s final round are Bart Dornier of Metairie, Billy Gabbert of Sulphur, Kevin Gros of Baton Rouge, Will Daigle of Baton Rouge, and Scotty Free of West Monroe at even-par 144; and Michael Fulco of Monroe, Steven Vogel of Madisonville, and Scott Sills of West Monroe at one-over par 145.
