PRESS RELEASE For Release: Upon Receipt Contact: Michael Walder ROBBY McWILLIAMS FIRES A FIVE-UNDER PAR 67 TO TAKE FIRST ROUND LEAD IN 2005 LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP Monroe, Louisiana August 12, 2004 Robby McWilliams, a Bossier City resident, carded a five-under par 67 on Friday to take the first round lead in the 14th annual Louisiana Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship. Following closely behind Williams is Scotty Free of West Monroe with a 68 and Will Daigle of Baton Rouge with a 69. McWilliams started his day off with a bogey at the par-4 first hole, but quickly got into red figures with an eagle on the par-5 third hole. He added three more birdies on the front nine (No. 4, 6, and 7) to make the turn at four-under par. Williams made three birdies on the back nine (No. 10, 16, and 18) against two bogeys to close out the day at five-under par. Free also started his round with an early bogey at the par-4 second hole, but rebounded with birdies at No. 3 and 6 to go out in one-under. After pars at No. 10-14, Free closed his round out with birdies on three of his final four holes (No. 15, 17, and 18). He finished the inward nine with a three-under par 33 to put him at four-under for the championship. Daigle got his day off to a hot start with birdies on No. 3, 4, and 5 before dropping a shot at the par-5 sixth hole. He made the turn in two-under par 34 and made eight pars to start the back before a closing birdie on the par-4 eighteenth. He finished the day at three-under par. Rounding out the top-ten going into Saturday’s second round are Tommy Brennan of Covington, Van Stewart of Shreveport, Kevin Gros of Baton Rouge, and Scott Sills of West Monroe at two-under par 70; Lewis Lauve of Alexandria at one-under par 71; and Page Breaux of Baton Rouge, Billy Gabbert of Sulphur, Ricky Parvino of Broussard, David Hebert of Lafayette, and Bart Dornier of Metairie at even-par 72. Bayou DeSiard Country Club, a Ron Pritchard design located in Monroe, is hosting this year’s event. Bayou DeSiard, which is always rated as one of the best layouts in the state, has gotten wonderful reviews from this field of the best players over age 25 in the state. The course is playing to a par of 72 and approximately 6,800 yards. Friday’s play was conducted under hot and humid conditions with few clouds, little breeze, and lots of sun. Saturday’s play will begin at 7:30 a.m. off both #1 and #10 tees with the leaders scheduled to go off #1 at 1:12 p.m. The field will be cut to the low 60 scores and ties after Saturday’s play.
