PRESS RELEASE For Release: Upon Receipt Contact: Carr McCalla METAIRIE’S NEAL AJUBITA AND MONROE’S DUSTIN GREEN SHOOT FIVE-UNDER PAR 67s TO SHARE FIRST ROUND LEAD IN LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION JUNIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP Zachary, Louisiana June 29, 2005 A pair of five-under par 67s lead the field into second round play at the 2005 Louisiana Golf Association Junior Amateur Championship. Monroe’s Dustin Green, who began his round on the tenth hole, birdied five of his first six holes, then finished off his first nine with three pars to shoot 31. Two bogeys and two birdies on his final nine (Holes 1-9) brought him in at 36 and completed his 67. Neal Ajubita of Metairie, who began on Hole #1, kick started his round with an eagle three on the par-5 sixth hole. He also had birdies on Holes #1 and #4 with a bogey on #3. Turning at 3-under 33 he also birdied #10, #11, #13, and #14 to get to 7-under before giving 2 shots back at the 15th and 17th holes (both par-3s) to finish at two-under 34 and 67. A shot back of the leaders with a four-under par 68 is 2004 Junior Amateur Champion Thomas Galloway of Covington, who won this Championship last year at Shreveport Country Club in a sudden-death playoff. Another shot back, and alone in fourth place after a three-under 69, is Nelson Lee of Alexandria. Brett Deters of Lake Charles and Kenner’s Kenny Barousse finished a shot back of Lee and are tied for fifth at two-under par 70, with local player Ben Adams of Baton Rouge, Colin Richwine of Marrero, and Clinton Shephard of West Monroe another shot back at one-under 71 and tied for seventh. Bossier City’s Cory Tucker, Ryan Peters of Destrehan, Clay Shovan of Quitman, John Henry Faulk of Lake Charles, Seth Dufrene of Luling, and Andrew Loupe, another Baton Rouge resident, are all tied for 10th at even-par 72. Thursday’s play will again begin at 7:30 a.m., with the Overall Championship pairings all going off in the morning. The leaders will go off Hole #1 at 9:20 a.m. Age Group divisions will complete play on Thursday with awards being presented upon completion of play Thursday afternoon. This year’s Championship is being played at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary, just north of Baton Rouge. The Championship had originally been scheduled for Pelican Point GC in Gonzales, but problems with the greens there necessitated an eleventh hour change to Beaver Creek. The course has drawn rave reviews from this field of the best junior players in the state and a huge note of gratitude from the LGA for their willingness to host this Championship on such short notice. Wednesday’s rounds were conducted under extremely hot and humid conditions. The Beaver Creek GC course played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,700 yards for this event. In addition to the Overall Junior Amateur Championship, the LGA also conducts Age-Group Championships: Age Group leaders after 18 holes are as follows: Age Group 10-11: Daniel Deloach/Boyce 76 Hayden Bigby/Bossier City 80 Age Group 12: Peyton Vitter/New Orleans 66 Myles Lewis/Metairie 68 Age Group 13: Tyler Ledet/Woodworth 68 Landon Lyons/Baton Rouge 72 Age Group 14: Mick Huffman/Maurice 68 Rob Doyle/LaPlace 73 Age Group 15: Blake Kelley/Mandeville 71 Corey Halsell/Lafayette 75 Age Group 16-17: Zack Kirksey/West Monroe 74 Adam Sturlese/Lafayette 77 Blake Upshaw/West Monroe 77 All scores to follow: ### | |
