PRESS RELEASE For Release: Upon Receipt Contact: Carr McCalla BATON ROUGE’S ANDREW LOUPE SHOOTS 67 TO TAKE LEAD AFTER 36 HOLES IN LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION JUNIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP Zachary, Louisiana June 30, 2005 Andrew Loupe of Baton Rouge, who was just two shots short of qualifying for the recent U.S. Open at Pinehurst, fired a five-under par 67 on Thursday to thrust himself into the lead in the 2005 Louisiana Golf Association Junior Amateur Championship at Beaver Creek Golf Course. Loupe, who was five shots back of leaders Neal Ajubita and Dustin Green following the first round of play, eagled the par-5 second hole to serve notice he intended to be a factor in this Championship. A birdie on the par-5 sixth brought him to the turn at three-under par 33. Birdies on Holes #11 and #13 were sandwiched around his only bogey of the day on Hole #12. Another birdie on #16 and two closing pars finished off his round of 67 for a two-day total of five-under par 139. First round co-leader Dustin Green of Monroe battled to a one-over par 73 on Thursday to finish 36 holes one shot back at four-under 140. In a tie with Green in second is Ryan Peters of Destrehan, who shot a four-under par 68 on Thursday. Another shot back at 141 after a round of 73 is defending champion Thomas Galloway of Covington. Also at 3-under 141 are Kenner’s Kenny Barousse (70/71), Colin Richwine of Marrero (71/70), and Cory Tucker of Bossier City (72/69). First round co-leader Neal Adjubita struggled on the day, shooting a five-over 77 to stand at even-par 144. Nelson Lee, two shots back after 18 holes, also shot 77 on Thursday and stands seven shots back at 146. Other rounds under par turned in on Thursday included: Ben Suarez of Sulphur (69), Cody Santone of Bossier City (69), Ben Sauls of Baton Rouge (71), Jordan Breaux of Sulphur (71), Andrew Noto of Luling (71), and Farrell Diliberto of Metairie (71). Friday’s final round of play will begin at 7:30 a.m., off both #1 and #10 tees, with the leaders again starting at 9:20 a.m. off the first tee. Age Group divisions completed their play on Thursday with awards being presented upon completion of play Thursday afternoon. This year’s Championship is being played at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary. The course continues to draw great reviews from this field of the best Junior players in Louisiana. The LGA was forced to move the Championship from Pelican Point GC earlier this month due to issues with the greens at Pelican Point and is tremendously appreciative to Beaver Creek for making their facility available for the Championship on such short notice. Thursday’s rounds were again conducted under hot and humid conditions. The Beaver Creek course played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,700 yards for this event.
