LOGJAM AT TOP OF LEADERBOARD AFTER FIRST ROUND OF LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION JUNIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Shreveport, Louisiana June 30, 2004

Shreveport's Shane Arnold, Monroe's Matthew Harvey, Covington's Thomas Galloway, and West Monroe's Clayton Broyles all shot 1-under par scores of 70 to tie for the early lead in the 2004 LGA Junior Amateur Championship on Wednesday. Arnold, playing in the first group of the day held the lead alone until Harvey returned his score, then Galloway and Broyles, playing in the same group, came in with their 70s, creating an interesting final round pairing for Thursday. Harvey and Arnold had bookend nines of 35/35, while Galloway shot 37/33 and Broyles 34/36. Right behind the leaders at even par 71 are Belle Chasse's Randy Guliuzo, who made 18 consecutive pars on Wednesday, and Tim Byrd of LaPlace. Rounding out the top 10 at 1-over par 72 are Shreveport's Andrew Peyton and Tyler Williams, Pineville's Danny Higdon, Jeremy Jeansonne of Keithville, and Stephen "Petey" Smith of Lafayette.

Thursday's play will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the Overall Championship pairings all going off in the morning. The leaders will go off #1 at 9:10 a.m. Age Group divisions will compete play on Thursday with awards being presented upon completion of play Thursday afternoon.

This year's Championship is being played at Shreveport Country Club. The course has been inundated with rain for most of the past month, including heavy rainfall last weekend. Lift, clean, and place rules were in effect Wednesday, the first time the LGA has been forced to play with those rules in effect in over three years. Wednesday's morning rounds were conducted under overcast skies with occasional light showers during play. Afternoon play was suspended for 60 minutes as a strong storm passed through the area at around 3 p.m. The Shreveport CC course played to a par of 71 at approximately 6,500 yards for this event.

In addition to the Overall Junior Amateur Championship, the LGA also conducts Age-Group Championships:
