McCLURE AND YATES WIN LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION SENIOR 4-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Alexandria, Louisiana May 8, 2004

Shreveport's Curt McClure and Pineville's Corky Yates captured the 2004 LGA Senior Four Ball Championship in dramatic fashion. A final round of 5 under 67 put them in a playoff with the pair of Henry Cole of Monroe and Mark Tolson of Lafayette. After Cole and Tolson missed their birdie opportunities on the first playoff hole, Yates made par leaving McClure with a free run at birdie from inside of 20 feet. McClure was able to drain the putt to capture the championship for he and Yates.

McClure and Yates, who also won the 60-64 Age Group Championship, finished at 14 under par 130. Cole and Tolson, who were three shots back after Friday's first round, fired a final round best 8 under par 64 on Saturday. Rounding out the top 5 were: Henry Dupre'/Ville Platte and Tedd Lemoine/Ville Platte (66/131), Robert Shelton/Lafayette and Jimmy Thomas/Lafayette (68/132), and Ronnie Moore/Haughton and Van Stewart/Shreveport (66/133).

McClure and Yates, playing in the final group of the day, played the front nine in 1 under par 35, with two birdies by Yates on #2 and #9 along with a bogey by the team on the par 4 #6. After a birdie by McClure on #11, the team finished off a clutch performance with birdies on three of the last five holes (Yates #14, #15 and McClure #17) to card a 5 under par 67. Cole and Tolson posted their score early. They shot a 4 under par 32 on the front nine, with Cole birdieing #3 and Tolson making birdie on #6. Pars followed on the next two holes before Tolson made an eagle on the par 5 #9 to cap off the outward nine. Cole made consecutive birdies on #12 and #13 followed by a Tolson birdie on #14. Cole and Tolson both birdied the par 5 #16 for their fourth and final birdie of the inward nine to take them to 8 under for the day and 14 under for the tournament.

This year's Championship was conducted at OakWing Golf Club in Alexandria. The course, a Jim Lipe design, opened in the fall of 2002 and continues to draw strong reviews from this field of the best Senior players in the state.
