Pelican Point Golf Club wins Louisiana Golf Association Club Team Championship

April 25, 2004 Kinder, Louisiana

Gonzales' Pelican Point Golf Club won the 2004 edition of the Louisiana Golf Association Club Team Championship on Sunday. Sunday's play was suspended at 1:30 PM and never restarted as a strong thunderstorm set in over southwest Louisiana the rest of the afternoon. Sunday's round was canceled at 4 PM with eleven teams still on the course when it was determined that all the players still out could not finish their second round before dark. All scores reverted back to first round totals enabling Pelican Point's #1 team to capture the title. Pelican Point, with their score of 13-under par 131 for Saturday's round of Four-Ball stroke play, bested the teams of Gray Plantation of Lake Charles, winner of this event in 2000 and 2001, and defending Champion Acadian Hills CC of Lafayette by four shots.

Pelican Point's winning team consisted of Paul Castro, Mark Bridges, Sid Harp, Sam Lavigne, Terrell Bourgeois, and Dennis Brown.

The 2004 Championship was played at Koasati Pines at Coushatta GC, a Kevin Tucker designed facility just northeast of Lake Charles in Kinder.

The Club Team Championship has become an extremely popular event for the LGA. Teams compete in 4-Ball stroke play on Saturday, counting the best 2 of 3 scores, while Sunday's play was scheduled to consist of individual play with the top 4 of 6 scores counting. Twenty-five teams participated in this year's event. The 2004 event is scheduled for Copper Mill GC in Baton Rouge, again in late April.
